“Peace and quiet, picturesque tranquillity of Mosedale”

About Mosedale End Farm

You might hear 'away or come bye' as my 'One Man and his dogs' fetches in the sheep for a health check or moves them to a new field. In spring the fields are full of ewes and lambs and in summer we are busy hay timing plus shearing. We have about 650 Swaledale and Mule ewes and 25 beef suckler cows and calves and 1 bull. There is also our children’s free range hens which you can feed.

The farm is in an environmental stewardship scheme which means we get paid to look after the beautiful landscape by doing things like not putting on to much artificial fertilizer, to encourage wild flowers and cutting hedges in autumn so not to disturb nesting birds in spring.

There is abundance of wild life here at Mosedale such as frog spawn, cuckoos in spring, swallows, buzzards, roe deer, foxes and a badger set at the bottom of Carrock fell. We even get the occasional red squirrel and weasel.

The local pub is 2 miles away, but at nearby Keswick there is many cafes, restaurants and pubs.

There is a market on Saturdays and many shops as well as cinema, theatre, museum and pencil museum and the puzzling place. Whinlatter visitor centre offers mountain bike hire and forest tracks, Go ape high ropes challenge and forest walks plus play area.

At Newlands adventure centre you can try things like ghyll scrambling to archery. Pony trekking at Rooking house.

Near to the swimming/fun pool at Keswick there is a playground in the park for younger guests.

You can also catch a launch and go for a trip on Derwent water or Lake Ullswater. Many walks to be explored and views to be found.

Mosedale and its picturesque surroundings has recently been the setting for the film Radiator, this is a stunning, beautiful, heart-breaking film. A profound study of how time changes parents into children and children into parents. Full of truth, compassion and dignity.
